Janelle Monáe’s blistering new single Make Me Feel is our Hottest Record of the Week. Actually, scratch that. This Prince-esque slice of pop-funk is the hottest record of the YEAR so far, bar none.
Like previous single Django Jane, Make Me Feel sounds like it could have been written by Prince himself. Well, as it turns out, it’s straight from the Purple One’s archive.
Both tracks feature on the Kansas City native’s forthcoming album Dirty Computer (out April 27), which is shaping up to be the soundtrack of 2018.
Monáe and Prince had a close working relationship before he died in 2016 and she recently told BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac: “Prince actually was working on the album with me before he passed on to another frequency, and helped me come up with sounds.
“I really miss him, you know, it’s hard for me to talk about him. But I do miss him, and his spirit will never leave me.”
In a now-deleted Facebook post, Prince’s DJ Lenka Paris went further into detail, saying Prince actually gave Monáe a synth line he wrote years ago that was ultimately used in Make Me Feel.
