Fringe Q&A: Andrew Maxwell

Andrew Maxwell’s All Tak is a memorable cocktail of personal stories, astute political observations and the odd surprise foray into character cameos. Andrew is known for his eagle-eyed, passionate, current-affairs comedy, showcased in his many appearances on BBC Radio 4 (News Quiz, Welcome to Wherever You Are, Public Enemies).

He’s been seen on – among others – Live at the Apollo (BBC One), Have I Got News for You (BBC One), Celebrity Mastermind (BBC One) and Mock the Week (BBC Two); and to a whole new generation he is the devilish voice of MTV’s Ex on the Beach.

Tell us a bit about the show you’re in this year?

I will be taking on the tough political subjects some comedians just skirt around mixed with some personal stories over the last year.

How much work has gone into getting it ready for Edinburgh?

Less that I could have but I am always last minute as my material tries to be up to date with what’s going on in the world

Are you nervous ahead of your opening night?

Always! Which is not a bad thing. Im as nervous as a zoo keeper in a lion’s enclosure should be.

There’s thousands of shows on – why should Fringe-goers fork out to see yours?

I’m very good! There are millions of bottletops but it doesn’t stop the metal detectors searching for gold.

Are there any other shows on this year you’d recommend?

Jason Byrne

What’s on your hit-list to see?

Jason Byrne.

Marcus Bridgstocke has a play on called Red.

What are you planning to do on your days off?

Go up Arthur’s Seat and having a laugh with all my comedy mates.

Sell your show in no more than ten words….

Come to the Purple Cow and I’ll relieve you.
