Attention Prince fans. Want to hear a previously-unreleased song from the late, great Minneapolis maestro? Thought so. And you’re in luck, as Prince’s first posthumously released song, Moonbeam Levels, premiered today – and you can listen to it right here.
ABC unveiled Moonbeam Levels during a listening party at New York City’s Cutting Room Studios, with the song beginning at the 45-second mark.
Recorded in 1982 while Prince was working on 1999, Moonbeam Levels is vintage Prince.
Moonbeam Levels has been released as part of a new compilation album, entitled Prince4Ever, which features over 40 of his best-known songs, including Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, Raspberry Beret and Kiss. See the full tracklisting for the album below.
The compilation will be followed by a deluxe reissue of Prince’s 1984 classic, Purple Rain, in April according to plans that were “agreed [upon] with Prince before he passed away”.
Alongside the reissue, NPG Records and Warner Bros. are planning to release a third album containing previously unreleased Prince songs, rumoured to be the first of many.
Recently, AAA reported that thousands of hours of unreleased music recorded by the prolific musician over his four-decade career has been put up for sale.
The report says that Prince’s estate are unsure of what the vault contains as they have only begun the process of cataloging the recordings.
Prince died at his Paisley Park home near Minneapolis in April.
The singer was found in an unresponsive state in a lift on the first floor of Paisley Park. Emergency services performed CPR, but were unable to revive the superstar.
Prince was pronounced dead at the scene.
