Listen to Christine and the Queens’ comeback single, Girlfriend

Ahead of her eagerly-awaited visit to Edinburgh this year, French pop sensation Christine and the Queens has returned with new single Girlfriend – and you can listen to it right here.

The Nantes-born singer-songwriter – real name Heloise Letissier – makes good on her earlier promise of “sweaty, tougher” material, and Girlfriend comes in two different versions, in English and in French.

It’s the follow up to her 2015 self-titled album, Chaleur Humaine, which featured hits like Tilted and Saint Claude.

The album – already more than seven-times platinum in France before its release in the UK – climbed into the Top 10 on the back of her incendiary performances on The Graham Norton Show and at Glastonbury Festival.

“I initially set out to smash against macho culture and macho men,” says Letissier. “I became obsessed with this idea of the macho man, and still being a woman. What does it mean if I’m this figure, and I’m a woman? Does it make me an aberration? Is it joyful?”
