Prince’s unfinished memoir – titled The Beautiful One – will finally be published this year.
Having signed a publishing deal, the Minneapolis maestro was handwriting the book, but only managed to submit 50 pages before he died at his home near Minneapolis in April 2016.
According to publishing agent Esther Newberg, the late musician had been working with the author Dan Piepenbring on The Beautiful One.
Work continued on the book after his death, with Newberg now confident that it will be available ‘just in time for holiday season’ – the end of 2018.
It is reported that the book may also feature ‘reproductions of Prince’s longhand pages’.
When the book was initially announced, The Beautiful One had been described as depicting “an unconventional and poetic journey through [Prince’s] life and creative work”.
Talking about how Prince signed the book deal, Newberg revealed that the agreement was struck in a way which had “never been done before”.
“Editors don’t like to be in the same room making their pitches to the same potential clients,” she explained. “We had to do it because I knew [Prince] would not want to meet individually with editors.”
Prince died at his home in April 2016.
The singer was found in an unresponsive state in a lift on the first floor of Paisley Park. Emergency services performed CPR, but were unable to revive the superstar.
Prince was pronounced dead at the scene.
