Former One Direction star Zayn Malik has revealed details of his debut solo album.
In an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats 1, the 22-year-old announced that the title of his forthcoming album is Mind Of Mine and said that he wrote “46, 47 songs” for the album, and that “17 or 18” will make the final cut.
Malik, who has just released his debut single, Pillowtalk (listen below), went on to say that he has collaborated with R&B singer Kehlani on one of the album’s tracks. “She’s sick,” Malik said. “I love her.
“I’m feeling excited, I’m feeling nervous, I’m feeling happy – I’ve finally got to do what I wanted to do… It’s kind of just like waiting for Christmas,” Malik told Lowe.
In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, Malik, who quit 1D last March, hinted that the tone of the new music will be explicit.
“I think I’m pretty black and white about what it’s about,” he said. “Everybody has sex, and it’s something people wanna hear about. It’s part of everybody’s life, a very BIG part of life! And you don’t wanna sweep it under the carpet. It has to be talked about,” he said.
Malik also revealed he had wanted to quit One Direction for some time. “I think I always kind of wanted to go. From like the first year really, I never really wanted to be there in the band. I just gave it a go because it was there at the time,” he said.
The singer also said recently that, despite trying to stay in touch with old pals Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, he hasn’t had a reply.
“I had every intention of remaining friends with everybody, but I guess certain phone numbers have changed and I haven’t received calls from a lot of people,” said Malik, who is set to release his own solo material this year.
“I’ve reached out to a few of them and not got a reply. Certain people have pride issues, but it’s stuff you overcome in time.”
