Johnny Depp says he ‘tortured’ Leonardo DiCaprio

Johnny Depp has revealed that he ‘tortured’ Leonardo DiCaprio on the set of What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.
Depp, 52, says he was less than friendly to DiCaprio back when the two actors were making the cult film, but added that he respected his co-star’s commitment.
DiCaprio, 41, was Oscar nominated for his performance in the 1993 movie as Arnie Grape, a kid growing up with a developmental disability in a small-town Iowa. Depp co-starred as his protective older brother, Gilbert.
“It was a hard time
for me, that film,
for some reason”
“It was a hard time for me, that film, for some reason. I don’t know why,” Depp recalled in an interview with People magazine.
“I tortured him,” Depp then said of DiCaprio, who is his 11 years his junior. “I really did. He was always talking about these videos games, you know? I told you it was kind of a dark period. ‘No, I will not give you a drag of my cigarette while you hide from your mother again, Leo.'”
However, Depp also admitted that he was very impressed by his co-star’s acting ability and commitment to the movie, saying: “I’d say the absolute truth is that I respect Leo a lot. He worked really hard on that film and spent a lot of time researching. He came to set and he was ready to work hard and all his ducks were in a row.”
