Kanye West’s co-writer quits and says rapper ‘needs counselling’

Kanye West just can’t stop making headlines at the moment – which is just the way he likes it.

Just days after the superstar rapper reignited his feud with Taylor Swift due to his misogynistic lyrics about the Shake It Off hitmaker in his song Famous, his long-time co-writer Rhymefest announced that he’s quit working with West, taking to Twitter to say that the star “needs help, in the form of counselling”.

Chicago rapper and songwriter Rhymefest has collaborated with West since his debut album, co-writing hits like Jesus Walks and New Slaves. But now, the artist has stated on Twitter that he stopped working with West “last month”.

Asked by a fan if he’d be willing to team up with West again, Rhymefest replied: “Nah his mind and spirit isn’t right”. He elaborated: “My brother needs help, in the form of counseling. Spiritual & mental. He should step away from the public & yesmen & heal”.

“I love my brother. I pray for his health not our entertainment,” he said later.

West’s new album The Life Of Pablo was premiered on Thursday evening during the Yeezy Season 3 fashion launch.

The album track Famous includes the lyrics, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous.”

No prizes for guessing who the Taylor in question is. The line, of course, being a reference to his infamous microphone swiping moment during Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

According to reports, Swift is less than impressed. But West has defended himself over the controversy caused by his lyric.

Taking to Twitter, the rapper claimed that he did not “diss” Swift and that the crux of the lyric was actually her idea.

“I did not diss Taylor Swift and I’ve never dissed her,” West wrote. “I’m an artist and as an artist I will express how I feel with no censorship… I asked my wife for her blessings and she was cool with it.”

He continued: “I called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line and she thought it was funny and gave her blessings… I’m not even gone take credit for the idea… it’s actually something Taylor came up with”.

“She was having dinner with one of our friends who’s name I will keep out of this and she told him… I can’t be mad at Kanye because he made me famous! #FACTS”.

West also wrote: “Bitch is an endearing term in hip hop like the word Nigga”.
