JK Rowling confirms Fantastic Beasts will be trilogy

JK Rowling has revealed that her Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them will form part of a trilogy of movies

The Edinburgh author divulged the information on Twitter while responding to rumours that Harry Potter stage play, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, would also be turned into a movie.

Rowling said that the stage play will remain off the big screen – but that fans can expect a lot more from the Fantastic Beasts series.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is set around 70 years before the Harry Potter saga begins, and it focuses on magizoologist Newt Scamander, who’s travelling the globe to discover some truly magical creatures.

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is due to hit cinemas in November 2016, just months after Harry Potter sequel play The Cursed Child opens on London’s West End.

When the film was announced in 2013, Rowling said: “Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world.

“The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry’s gets underway.”
