Star Wars: The Force Awakens gets its DVD release date

The Force is about to awaken in your own front room with news that Star Wars: The Force Awakens is to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray next month.

Disney CEO Robert A. Igler revealed the release date of April 5 at the company’s annual shareholder meeting yesterday.

The DVD and Blu-Ray release will be stacked with extras including an in-depth documentary shot behind the scenes of J.J. Abrams’ film, as well as deleted scenes and interviews with the cast and crew.

The bonus features include:

Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey – a feature-length documentary telling the complete story behind the making of The Force Awakens, featuring in-depth footage and exclusive interviews with the actors and filmmakers.

The Story Awakens: The Table Read – Interview feature focusing on the cast’s first day together reading the script.

Building BB-8: A look at how the crew created the loveable droid.

Crafting Creatures:  A look at how the other creatures of the ‘Force Awakens’ universe were made.

Blueprint of a Battle – The Snow Fight: Forensic insight into the lightsabre battle between Rey and Kylo Ren.

John Williams – The Seventh Symphony: Iconic composer shares his memories of working on historical Star Wars films and The Force Awakens.

Since its release in mid-December, J.J. Abrams’ film has raked in over $2 billion at the global box office, making it the third highest-grossing film of all time behind James Cameron’s Avatar and Titanic.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens takes place 30 years after the events of Return Of The Jedi. The film’s script was written by Abrams, Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt and Star Wars franchise veteran Lawrence Kasdan.

Alongside the returning trio of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, the film’s cast also includes Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow and Andy Serkis.

The storyline of the movie follows the Resistance’s effort to return the lightsaber to its rightful owner.
