Scottish indie favourites Franz Ferdinand are back with a brand new single titled Always Ascending – and it’s AAA’s Hottest Record of the Week.
The Mercury Prize winners are gearing up to release their long-awaited fifth studio album – also titled Always Ascending – and if their comeback single is any indicator, it’s going to be epic.
The Glasgow-based band played a secret comeback gig at The Rum Shack in their hometown at the weekend – their first live outing since performing in front of 25,000 fans at Madrid’s Dcode festival.
With founder member Nick McCarthy quitting the band recently, Franz Ferdinand are back with a new line-up – the latest incarnation of the band featuring two new members.
Joining frontman Alex Kapranos, bassist Bob Hardy and drummer Paul Thomson are Dino Bardot and Julian Corrie.
Bardot was formerly a member of indie trio the 1990s, while Corrie has produced electronic music under the Miaoux Miaoux moniker in recent years.
Always Ascending, the new album from Franz, is being released by Domino on Friday, 9 February.
Nothing short of a rebirth, the album’s ten songs are a triumphant recasting of the group, bursting with fresh ideas and vigorous sonic experimentation.
