Blossoms add Scottish date to UK tour

Indie band of the moment Blossoms have announced a new run of UK tour dates for 2017 – including a visit to Glasgow’s O2 Academy on April 1.

It’s already been a massive year for the Stockport five-piece, and these will be the biggest headline shows they’ve played to date.

Back when the Stockport indie outfit first announced a UK tour that brought them to Edinburgh’s Liquid Room in March, they were still very much in the “ones-to-watch” category, having been placed fourth in the BBC Sound of 2016 poll.

Then they brought out an EP featuring what’s probably the best pop record of the year so far – the swooningly melodic At Most A Kiss. Said release went straight to No.1 in the iTunes chart, knocking Adele off the top spot, and all of a sudden that Edinburgh gig was starting to look like a must-see event.

“We are made up with it [reaching No.1], says Blossoms’ frontman Tom Ogden at the time. “It’s really nice to see and it’s a real testament to the fans who are so loyal.

“We want to show people we have got lots of material. The Smiths and Oasis did it with B-sides and they were amazing.”

Blossoms then went on to have a No 1 album with their self-titled debut album this summer.

Stone Roses singer Ian Brown is known to be a Blossoms fan, as is former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr.

“We met Johnny in the Arndale Centre — we just bumped into him randomly and he knew us from [our song] Charlemagne,” says Ogden.  “He said, ‘You lot have that good pop tune out, haven’t you?’ meaning Charlemagne and we were like, ‘Yeah, we’ll take that’.”
