It’s located in one of the most sought-after locations in Edinburgh and yet funky cocktail bar Juniper still seems to be one of the city’s best-kept secrets.
Sitting directly opposite Waverley Station, inside the Royal British Hotel, the award-winning cocktail bar strikes the perfect balance between being a slick, trendy destination bar and a friendly, relaxed place to meet with friends for a casual drink. Visually, Juniper is a strikingly modern bar which is full of quirky, stylish décor and features panoramic windows which give way to unrivalled views of Edinburgh Castle and the Scott Monument.
With an adventurous cocktail menu inspired by some of the city’s most iconic areas including The Old Town, The New Town, The East End, The Meadows and The Royal Mile, it’s the perfect place to spend a long summer evening.
Our favourites include Edinburgh Bramble from The Old Town menu, a fresh, fruity concoction which fuses rhubarb and raspberry Edinburgh Gin with gomme syrup and fresh lemon, and the indulgently brilliant Banana Split from The East End menu, which marries Stolichnaya Vanilla Vodka with rich double cream and coconut foam.
For those struggling to decide which delicious beverage to go for, Juniper have introduced a Cocktail Tasting Menu, available for groups of two or more. For only £30 per person, this option allows you to each sample four of the bar’s expert mixologist’s most popular tipples – Juniper, The Dictator, Pretty in Pink and Banana Split – whilst snacking on bar nibbles. What’s not to love?!
Juniper’s sister restaurant, Twenty Princes Street, are offering a special graduation menu until July 31. Created by award-winning chef Tony Sarton, the three-course menu includes a glass of Prosecco and costs £25 for lunch and £35 for dinner.
Juniper, Royal British Hotel, 20 Princes Street, Edinburgh, 0131 652 7370. Individual cocktails cost from £7.50 each.
