Elbow announce new album, huge UK tour, and Edinburgh double-header

Mercury-winning band Elbow have announced the release of their new album, followed by a lengthy UK tour that will see them play two consecutive nights at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall in March.

The Mancunians are set to release their seventh studio album, the long-awaited follow-up to 2014’s The Take Off And Landing Of Everything, on February 3, before heading out on their biggest tour since 2008, with dates in Dublin, Birmingham, London and Manchester, among others.

The band’s as-yet-untitled new album will be their first as a four-piece, following the departure of drummer Richard Jupp earlier this year.

In a short announcement on their website, Elbow explained Jupp left to concentrate on other projects, including the expansion of his drum school.

“Richard will also continue to support the charities that he is involved with,” the statement said. “Having been a member of Elbow since the beginning 25 years ago, Guy, Pete, Mark and Craig wish Jupp every success in his new ventures. The band are currently writing tracks for their seventh studio album, due for release in 2017.”

The new album arrives after Courting The Squall, frontman Guy Garvey’s solo album from last year.

The band will visit the Usher Hall on Sunday, March 12 and Monday, March 14.
