Elle Exxe’s AAA Edinburgh

Edinburgh-born electro-clash queen-in-waiting Elle Exxe is set to bring her perfect pop home to Sneaky Pete’s on Tuesday, November 17 – so AAA thought the timing was perfect to invite her to take part in our weekly My Edinburgh series. Recently described as, “a noisy brash Charli XCX-style toys out the pram pop strop”, her music is an electronically-driven and often psychedelic form of pop music – one critic even likened it to ‘viewing pop art on acid’.

The dirty pop diva made her introduction to the scene with her debut single Lie To Me – and she’s been a hot property ever since. The Edinburgh show celebrates the launch of Elle Exxe’s new Love To Hate You EP and – trust us on this – it’s not to be missed.

  • Most memorable Capital event?

Hogmanay on Princes Street. The fireworks, the people and all the music is spot on.

  • Who would you choose to headline Edinburgh’s Hogmanay?

I’d pick me; Elle Exxe 100%. Do you know the organisers? Shall we book this in? It’s all about the Waverley Stage though; I’ve seen Young Fathers, Frightened Rabbit and Twin Atlantic there. I’d love to see Biffy Clyro headline and would also love to see Hudson Mohawke.

  • Favourite old-fashioned boozer?

I’m not sure what classifies somewhere as an old-fashioned boozer…does Whistlebinkies count? If so, I’d pick that. Otherwise I’d say The Tron… cheap drinks and happy memories.

  • Favourite style bar?

Bon Vivant. The food’s good and so are the cocktails.

  • Favourite restaurant?

I must confess, my mum’s amazing home cooking stops me from testing out the restaurants. If I’m going out it’s usually for takeaway… but for posh fish ‘n’ chips, great setting and service, Ondine.

“Enjoying all that

creative talent in

one place is an

incredible blessing”

  • Do you love or loathe the Festival?

Love. Sharing brings happiness, right? So sharing this amazing city with people from all over the world and enjoying all that creative talent in one place is an incredible blessing – it’s always a happy time of year for me.

  • Favourite art gallery?

Dean Gallery. I saw the Roy Lichtenstein exhibition there recently – he’s one of my biggest inspirations.

  • Favourite cinema?

The Dominion. I love art deco and a bit of luxury.

  • Favourite live music venue?

Wow this is a tough one! But I’m going to say Sneaky Pete’s because I’m playing there on 17th November *PLUG ALERT* COME TO MY SHOW *PLUG OVER*

  • Favourite walk in or around the city?

I love walking along the Water of Leith. It’s so peaceful and romantic. It feels like hardly anyone remembers it’s there.

  • Favourite shopping area?

The Old Town. I like the unique boutiques….but it is a bit of a work out.

  • Favourite piece of architecture?

The Scott Monument. The eerie Gothic silhouette is in all my photos of Edinburgh.

  • What’s the biggest change you’ve seen in the city?

The trams.

  • Favourite festival?

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Electric and eclectic.

  • Favourite Edinburgh band ever?

Bay City Rollers…did you hear the statement about their reunion? “You think we’re doing it for money but we’re doing it for the glory of Scotland and the glory of the tartan.” So for the glory of tartan, I choose Bay City Rollers.

  • Favourite local hero?

The boys from Young Fathers. I was there at the Mercurys when they won last year and was so proud. They’re inspiring the next generation of musicians in Edinburgh to be honest, brave and make a change in the world as we see it. I especially respect the fact they spoke out about Edinburgh councils lack of support for live music.

  • Sell Edinburgh to a tourist in no more than ten words…

Come to Edinburgh for culture, beautiful scenery and great friends.
