Frank Turner will return to Edinburgh later this year as part of his upcoming UK tour.
The singer-songwriter will also play dates in Dublin, Belfast, Newcastle, Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool, Southampton – and more. See full tour dates below.
Turner is set to perform live at Liquid Room on Saturday, 21 April in support of his eighth studio album, Be More Kind. The album, which is due to be released in May, was inspired by the Clive James poem Leçons Des Ténèbres.
Turner explained: “It devastated me the first time I read it. A lot of older, wiser people tend to say things like that, that the things that come out in the wash at the end of a human life are the way you treated the people around you. In the modern world, that’s a lesson that all of us, myself included could do to learn.”
He continued: “I wanted to try and get out of my comfort zone and do something different. Somewhere in the record, there’s a convergence of the ideas of personal and political, which is a central theme of the album.
“One of the driving themes of the album is empathy, even for your enemy. You should at least be able to inhibit the mental universe of the people you disagree with. If you can’t do that, then how do you communicate with people other than through force of arms, which is something we all agree is a bad idea.”
The tour announcement comes less than a week after Turner pleased fans by performing an intimate sold-out show at The Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow as part of the Celtic Connections festival. During the gig, he performed several new tracks including Be More Kind and 1933.
Tickets for his Edinburgh show will go on sale at 10am on Friday, 2 February but fans can gain access to a ticket presale by pre-ordering Be More Kind from Turner’s official website.
