Fringe Q&A: Atomic Saloon Show – Spiegelworld

The wildest watering hole in town. Madam Boozy Skunkton has been collecting the prettiest, sexiest, dumbest, drunkest troupe of entertainers and acrobats on earth, and is determined to create the greatest saloon show the world has ever known. Moulin Rouge meets Blazing Saddles, and America’s Got Talent meets Westworld. From the creators of the hit Las Vegas show Absinthe.

Featuring some of the best names in variety and physical comedy, this world premiere is a must-see before it heads to its permanent home on the Las Vegas Strip. Directed by Cal McCrystal (One Man, Two Guvnors).

Is this your first time at the Fringe?

Spiegelworld presented a small production Vegas Nocturne at Fringe in 2014. We were awarded Strangest Show!

Tell us a bit about the show you’re in this year?

We are presenting the world premiere of Atomic Saloon Show in the Assembly’s gorgeous spiegeltent. It’s directed by Cal McCrystal who is well known by Fringe audiences and who created all the incredible physical comedy for One Man, Two Guvnors. So the show promises stupidly funny comedy, jaw-droppingly sexy acrobats and an immersive take on the Wild West as it never was.

How much work has gone into getting it ready for Edinburgh?

Spiegelworld is relocating our entire Las Vegas production company and 14 international performers to Edinburgh for the months of July and August to create and premiere Atomic Saloon Show. We have been planning this show for over 12 months.

Are you nervous ahead of your opening night?

We’re all running on adrenalin at the moment and just so excited to be finally getting together to create a show in Edinburgh.

There are thousands of shows on – why should Fringe-goers fork out to see yours?

Anyone who has been to Las Vegas may have seen our long-running shows Absinthe and Opium and know that we love subversive comedy, and drop-dead sexy acrobats. With 14 performers on stage, incredible costumes and a frenetic party pace, you always get plenty of bang for your buck with a Spiegelworld show.

Are there any other shows on this year you’d recommend?

We are looking forward to seeing the many other circus companies on offer including Australia’s stunning Circa and the all-female Yuck, and Filament from Los Angeles.

What’s on your hit-list to see?

The Black Blues Brothers looks like an absolute hoot!

What are you planning to do on your days off?

After Edinburgh, we are taking Atomic Saloon Show to its permanent residency at a saloon in Las Vegas, so the plan is to sample and stock up from as many of Edinburgh’s whiskey bars as possible.
