Oscar-winning British actor Jim Broadbent, who played Horace Slughorn in the Harry Potter movies, will join the cast of Game Of Thrones for a “significant” role in season seven.
Broadbent – who also starred in Moulin Rouge and Bridget Jones’s Diary – has signed on for the next season of the hit fantasy epic, although it remains a mystery which character he will play.
As such, many fans are already speculating on social media about the role Broadbent will take on, which has been described only as “significant” by Entertainment Weekly.
Game of Thrones, adapted from George RR Martin’s bestselling novels, stars Kit Harington, Maisie Williams, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke, among others.
Recently, Harrington, who plays Jon Snow in the series, told fans the show gets “very dark before it gets better”.
“It’s important to stress at this point that I haven’t had any scripts, so this is all guess work for me,” he said. “I think it’s going to get very bleak before if there is a happy ending.
“If there’s any sort of win or heroic moment for Jon and everyone else. I think it’s going to get very dark before it gets better. I think what we might see this season is those White Walkers and that Army of the Dead really come into force. So that’s going to be exciting to see.”
The English actor added that he didn’t know what “winter is finally here” meant in relation to the storyline. “I think with the whole “winter is finally here” business, it means everyone is going to have a really bad time,” he said.
The next series will start filming soon in locations including Iceland, Spain and Northern Ireland.
The eighth and final season is expected to screen in 2018.
