It’s the most eagerly-awaited movie of the year – and now the official full length trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been unveiled.
The trailer, which clocks in at two minutes and 23 seconds, can be seen below, and gives fans at sneak peak at what to expect from the film.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release in Edinburgh – and nationwide – cinemas on December 17, and in the US a day later.
It all takes place 30 years after the events of Return Of The Jedi. The film’s script was written by JJ Abrams, Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt and Star Wars franchise veteran Lawrence Kasdan.
Alongside the returning trio of Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, the film’s cast also includes Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow and Andy Serkis.
The storyline of the movie follows the Resistance’s effort to return the lightsaber to its rightful owner. But exactly who that might be is not yet known. Some Star Wars fanatics have suggested that a certain Luke Skywalker lies in wait at the end of the movie.
As CinemaBlend notes: “This is all based on the unconfirmed rumours that have made the rounds. The fan essentially places them in an order that makes sense and, using some conjecture and knowledge of these movies to link them together, creates a potential narrative”.
All will be revealed when the film arrives in UK cinemas this Christmas.
Meanwhile, it has recently emerged that the film will feature a character – believed to be an alien X-Wing pilot for the resistance – named after a Beastie Boys album.
Abrams is known to be a huge fan of the 90s hip-hop group.
In other Star Wars news, Lucasfilm is also working on a series of Star Wars spin-off films which it has titled the Anthology Series.
The first spin-off, Rogue One, starring Felicity Jones, will arrive on December 16, 2016.
A second spin-off film focusing on the origins of Harrison Ford’s iconic character, Han Solo, was announced earlier this year.
The as-yet-untitled film is due for release on May 25, 2018.
