Pop superstar Lady Gaga is to portray late Liverpool singer and TV presenter Cilla Black in a new biopic about Dionne Warwick, according to reports.
The musical feud between the pair is well documented, and started in the 1960s when Warwick accused her one-time rival of “stealing her music”, following a spat over the single Anyone Who Had A Heart.
Black, whose early singing career saw her championed by The Beatles, died in August last year at the age of 72.
Now, according to BBC News, Gaga’s role was announced at Cannes Film Festival earlier today (May 13)
Warwick herself made the announcement of the movie, which will focus on her life and career.
Original Destiny’s Child singer LeToya Luckett will reportedly play Warwick in the biopic, with Danny Glover taking on the role of Warwick’s father.
Mario von Peebles (New Jack City, Judgement Day) is in talks to direct.
Speaking at Cannes, Warwick said she regarded Black as her nemesis “because she stole my music”.
