Listen: Feist and Jarvis Cocker team up for track on Canadian’s new album

Canadian indie-pop star Feist has teamed up with Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker for new track Century – you can listen to it here.

The track is lifted from Feist’s upcoming album Pleasure, which is her first in six years and will be released through Universal on April 28.

The singer-songwriter – full name Leslie Feist – said recently of her new album: “So here’s what I can tell you. I made this record last winter with 2 of my closest friends, Mocky and Renaud LeTang. I was raw and so were the takes.

“Our desire was to record that state without guile or go-to’s and to pin the songs down with conviction and our straight up human bodies.”

She continued: “I titled the album Pleasure like I was planting a seed or prophecising some brightness. The experience of pleasure is mild or deep, sometimes temporal, sometimes a sort of low grade lasting, usually a motivator. If the way you look at things is how they look then my motivation is to look with a brighter eye.”

“So there it is, in a nutshell,” she concluded. “I’m grateful for your curiosity, the music is en route. Best and soon, Leslie.”

As reported on AAA recently, Cocker will be appearing at this year’s Edinburgh International Festival with Room 29, a brand new collaboration between the singer and piano virtuoso Chilly Gonzales.

Room 29 will show at the King’s Theatre in August (22, 23 & 24 August) and will give voice to the ghosts of Room 29 at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Hollywood.

Cocker was inspired to write the cycle of songs during his own stay in Room 29 using the room’s baby grand piano, and through music, dance, theatrical clips from Hollywood movies and alongside the Kaiser Quartett, he and Gonzalez reveal the secrets and escapades of the hotel’s famous and not-so-famous occupants.
