Listen to Katy Perry’s first new material in three years

US singer Katy Perry has dropped the teaser video for her new single Rise, teasing 27 seconds of footage from the forthcoming full-length video. Watch it below.

The track, the Californian singer’s first new material since her chart-topping 2013 album Prism, will be used as NBC’s Olympics anthem during the network’s coverage of the global sporting event in Rio de Janeiro this month (August).

“This is a song that’s been brewing inside me for years, that has finally come to the surface,” Perry said in a statement. “I was inspired to finish it now, rather than save it for my next album, because now more than ever, there is a need for our world to unite.”

“I know that together we can rise above the fear – in our country, and around the world. I can’t think of a better example than the Olympic athletes, as they gather in Rio with their strength and fearlessness, to remind us how we ALL can come together, with the resolve to be the best we can be,” she continued in a statement.

“I hope this song can inspire us to heal, unite, and rise together. I am honoured that NBC Olympics has chosen to use it as an anthem before and during the Rio Games.”

The full-length video for ‘Rise’ is expected to be released later this week (August 4).

Recently, Perry came out on top in Forbes’ annual celebrity rich list, after more than tripling her earnings in the last year.

In the 12 months between June 2014 and June 2015, Perry earned a staggering £87m ($135m), while Swift, pipped into second place, earned an admittedly none-too-shabby £51.9m ($80m) during the same period.

Perry’s staggering earnings are largely attributed to her 126-date Prismatic world tour.
