Meg Ryan to walk the red carpet in Edinburgh

Hollywood star Meg Ryan is heading to Edinburgh later this month to promote her new film Ithaca.

The actress-turned-director will walk the red carpet at this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival, joining a star-studded line-up which includes Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall, cult filmmaker Kevin Smith, Revenant actor Will Poulter, Game of Thrones baddie Jonathan Pryce and supermodel-turned-actress Agyness Deyn.

Sleepless In Seattle actress Ryan will present directorial debut Ithaca, which co-stars Tom Hanks, who is also the executive producer, at a gala premiere on Thursday, 23 June.

Ithaca marks the fourth time that Ryan and Hanks have appeared together on the big screen and the first time since their 1998 film You’ve Got Mail.

Based on Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Saroyan’s 1943 novel, Ithaca centres around the fictional town of Ithaca, California during World War II.

The film also stars Meg Ryan’s son Jack Quaid, who plays Marvel in The Hunger Games movies.

As well as the premiere of Disney’s Finding Dory, this year’s Edinburgh International Film Festival – which runs between June 15 and 26 – will showcase 161 features from 46 different countries, including 22 world premieres, five international premiers, 17 European premiers and 85 UK premieres.

Speaking about this year’s festival, Artistic Director Mark Adams said: “It’s a real thrill to unveil this year’s programme and I am looking forward to showcasing so many great films and welcoming so many talented filmmakers to our 70th edition.

“As always we like to offer an incredibly broad range of work to ensure there is always something for everyone – from mesmeric retrospectives through to absorbing new short films, to 130 new features from 46 countries, rest assured this year’s EIFF will challenge, provoke and entertain audiences in equal measure.”
