Preview: Meadows Festival 2016

Summer is finally upon us and festival season kicks off this weekend with the annual Meadows Festival, which offers a wide range of activities – including a line-up of local bands and dance groups, quirky performers, a dog show, workshops and family-friendly activities galore.

The volunteer-run, free-to-enter event kicks off at 10am on Saturday and continues on through Sunday until 5pm.

The Red Dog Music Stage once more brings local artists to the festival, while the Totally Sound Music Stage offers a space for young artists to showcase their talents in public.

Local acts taking to the stage include Tinderbox Orchestra, Mad Tango, Sea Bass Kid, Miracle Glass Company, Hailey Beavis and Jamie & Shoony.

For the young uns, there’s a popular kids’ area with activities including face painting, storytelling and lots more.

If you’re feeling peckish, there’s food stalls to suit every taste and appetite, and general merchandise stalls selling everything from antiques to clothing to fair trade products.

The Forest Cafe is returning once again this year to bring an artsy and musical area with their own style and bar.

Last summer, more than 25,000 people attended the Meadows Festival – so prepare for a busy and fun-filled couple of days.

Meadows Festival, Melville Drive, Saturday 4 June – Sunday 5 June, free. For more information about the Meadows Festival, visit www.meadowsfestival.org/
