South London soul singer-songwriter has won the 2017 Hyundai Mercury Prize, beating Ed Sheeran’s Divide and Stormzy’s Gang Signs & Prayer, as well as nine other shortlisted records. Sampha, full name Sampha Sisay, was awarded the prestigious prize for his mournful album, Process. “I feel like I’m dreaming!” said the singer, who for years was better known as a guest vocalist on other people’s records.
