Tourism officials unhappy about Mike Posner’s No.1 hit, I Took A Pill In Ibiza

Chart-topper Mike Posner has been invited to visit Ibiza and immerse himself in its museums, beaches and restaurants as the tourism board attempts to move away from the island’s hedonistic image.

The Detroit singer is currently enjoying worldwide success with his single I Took A Pill In Ibiza, which details his comedown from a night of drug taking on the beautiful Balearic island.

The song, which is No.1 in the Official UK charts, includes the lyrics: ‘I took a pill in Ibiza, To show Avicii I was cool, And when I finally got sober, felt 10 years older, But f*ck it, it was something to do.’

The music video shows a bloke whose head morphs into a giant cardboard mask after popping a pill at a nightclub.

“We have invited the author of this song to discover Ibiza because we have much more to offer besides the nightlife which is known worldwide,” tourism director Vicent Ferrer, told AFP.

“We have museums, beaches, culture, gastronomy, we have a wide offer but unfortunately we have been typecast this way. Unfortunately someone who wants to consume pills or alcohol can be found in any tourist destination, the fact that it is only us who are pigeonholed does not seem fair.”
