Choose life, choose to watch the first official trailer for the long-awaited sequel to the cult film Trainspotting – which has just been released. You can watch it below.
Trainspotting 2 – or T2 as it’s being billed – sees the original cast of the 1996 movie (including Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle and Jonny Lee Miller) return, while director Danny Boyle is back at the helm.
The trailer features all our favourite characters from the first film (Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy, Spud et al) and gives the first film’s classic voiceover a modern twist: “Choose life, choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares.”
Scottish actor McGregor, who reprises his roles as Renton in the film, said earlier this year that the script is “really, really, really good.”
Carlyle – who will reprise his role as psycho Begbie – previously said he is “wary” of the new movie, but was also full of praise for John Hodge’s script, describing it as “one of the best scripts I’ve f**king read”.
“Yeah, we’ve already had a read-through of the script – we did that in the springtime,” said the 54-year-old. “You’re going to think, ‘Of course he’s going to say this’, but honestly, it’s one of the best scripts I’ve f**king read. I mean, EVER.”
Author Irvine Welsh recently revealed earlier this year that the sequel will be based on his 2002 novel Porno, but will not be exactly the same.
“We’ve had to evolve past that, because the actors would have been ten years older when Porno came out, and now they’re 20 years older,” said Welsh. “It has to take into account that reality.”
