Cincinnati-based indie group The National have released the video for new single Sleep Well Beast – and you can watch it right here.
The band – who went down an absolute storm during their two-night stint at Edinburgh’s Usher Hall in September – released their seventh studio album, also titled Sleep Well Beast, on 4AD a few months back.
Now they have shared a video for the album’s title track. The abstract video was directed by Casey Reas and Graham MacIndoe.
It follows the release of Dark Side Of The Gym, the band’s ballet-inspired video, which was directed by acclaimed choreographer Justin Peck.
Sleep Well Beast, the album, was produced by member Aaron Dessner with co-production by Bryce Dessner and Matt Berninger.
The album was mixed by Peter Katis and recorded at Aaron Dessner’s Hudson Valley, New York studio, Long Pond, with additional sessions having taken place in Berlin, Paris and Los Angeles.
Following the record’s release, The National have revealed that they have another album’s worth of new material ready to go.
In an interview with music bible NME, the band said they’ve got plenty of leftover songs from recent years’ writing sessions.
“Oddly, there was a whole other strain of music that we were making that we were all very excited about,” said guitarist Aaron Dessner.
“That was more of us playing in a room and more of a conventional ‘National as a rock band’ thing. There was a brightness to it, and a lot of the songs didn’t need anything adding to them.
“There was a whole batch of stuff like that a couple of years ago, then we ended up going down all these different rabbit holes and ended up where we are now on Sleep Well Beast.
“Part of me wonders if we’ll revisit some of what we were doing before. It was a breath of fresh air. We were capturing something that felt almost complete.”
Brother and fellow guitarist Bryce Dessner added: “There are all kinds of new techniques and sounds we’re exploring and we could go in way deeper.
“Aaron and I have been exploring that in a deeper way already, and other things that we’re doing but I think I could see us doing something far more simple as well.
“The last thing we do after finishing a record is plan a next one. I will say we have a lot of music that we’ve made so there is more than one record there.
In the short-term we have to work out if and how we use any of that.”
