Will Ferrell: ‘I could play Jamie Vardy in his fatter years’

Hollywood star Will Ferrell has joked that he could play Jamie Vardy – but only in the Leicester City striker’s “later, fatter years”.

The 49-year-old actor and comedian ruled himself out of any involvement in the rumoured biopic about the striker as the Premiership champions made a pre-season visit to Los Angeles.

“I would have to play him in his later years,” Ferrell joked to reporters. “His later, fatter years.”

Ferrell is the co-owner of Los Angeles FC, who are competing against Leicester City in the International Champions Cup tournament.

The star of films like Zoolander and Wedding Crashers described the English club’s unlikely title triumph last season as “an amazing storyline in any sport”.

“Especially here in America, we love an underdog,” he added. “It doesn’t matter what sport it is, you’ll find Americans pulling for that team that comes out of nowhere. And Leicester City winning it all… it’s equivalent to a team here that’s never had any wins and winning the Super Bowl.”
